| Dancer and ballet director, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He trained at the Royal Danish Ballet School, joining the company in 1947. An unrivalled exponent of the Bournonville style, he toured the world as guest performer with many companies. He was the director of the Royal Swedish Ballet (1967–72) and artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada (1983–6). |
