| Anthropologist, born in Vienna, Austria. He emigrated to the USA in 1940, where his academic career included teaching at Herbert Lehman College, City University of New York (1971). His work on peasant cultures and their integration into industrialized societies included fieldwork in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Italy, and he published Peasants (1966) and Peasant Wars of the Twentieth Century (1969). |
