| Physicist, born in Palo Alto, California, USA. He studied at Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (PhD, 1990), and went on to work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the University of Colorado. He shared the 2001 Nobel Prize for Physics for the achievement of Bose–Einstein condensation in dilute gases of alkali atoms, and for early fundamental studies of the properties of the condensates. |
