| biography:
| Humorist, born in Baio, La Coruña, NW Spain. He founded the satirical magazines Galicia Humorística (1888) and La Pequeña Patria (1891), and collected together his Galician verse in Bálsamo de Fierabras (1889). A typical example of his gentle mockery of Galician country people is the poem ‘O fin de mundo’ in which the writer hesitates, then stays behind when everyone else departs, to look after his farm though the end of the world is at hand. His serious poetry in Castilian lacks inspiration. |
