| Italian patriot, born in Modena, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. He plotted a liberal revolt which had the secret backing of Francesco IV, Duke of Modena, and which was planned to break out in Modena and other Italian towns simultaneously in 1831. He was abroad when the revolt failed after the duke withdrew his support, and his fellow-conspirator, Ciro Menotti, was arrested. Misley was suspected of betraying him; he left for Spain, then Piedmont, but was expelled in 1850. |
