| Military leader and marshal of Italy, born in Finale Ligure, Liguria, NW Italy. He contributed to the Vittorio Veneto victory in World War 1. A senator and then minister, he was in charge of the forces that terminated d'Annunzio's Fiume venture in 1920. He initiated the negotiations for Rome's surrender to the Germans in 1943. |
