| Novelist, poet, and playwright, born in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, NC Wales, UK. He studied at University College, Aberystwyth, where he read history, learned Welsh, and became a nationalist. He has worked as a teacher and a BBC Wales drama producer. He won the Somerset Maugham Award for his novel Hear and Forgive (1952), and the Hawthornden Prize for A Toy Epic (1958). Later books include The Triple Net (1988), The Crucible of Myth (1990), Bonds of Attachment (1991), and Unconditional Surrender (1996). |
