| Writer of detective fiction, born in Saujon,W France. He had already contributed to some of the smaller Parisian papers, when he leapt to fame with L'Affaire Lerouge (1866, trans The Widow Lerouge) featuring his detective Lecoq. It was followed by Le Dossier 113 (1867), Monsieur Lecoq (1869), Les Esclaves de Paris (1869, The Slaves of Paris), and several others. |
