| Thriller writer, born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. During World War 2 he served in the US Navy, and afterwards studied English literature at Detroit. Throughout the 1950s he worked in advertising as a copywriter, but from 1967 concentrated on screenplays and novels. Regarded as the foremost crime writer in America, his books include Unknown Man No. 89 (1977), La Brava (1983), Touch (1987), Get Shorty (1990, filmed 1995), and a sequel, Be Cool (1999). |
