| Yachtswoman, born in Derbyshire, C England, UK. At age 18 she won the BT/YJA Young Sailor of the Year, and in 1998 was named BT/YJA Yachtsman of the Year. In 2000 she entered the gruelling Vendée Globe yacht race in Kingfisher and made history by becoming the fastest woman ever to sail solo around the world in a time of 94 days, 4 hrs, 25 min, 40 s, gaining second place in the race. In 2001 she was named female world sailor of the year by the International Sailing Federation. She won the Route du Rhum solo transatlantic race in record-breaking time of 13 days, 13 hrs, 31 min, 47 s aboard Kingfisher in 2002. |
