| Yankton Sioux scholar and writer, born in Wakpala, South Dakota, USA. She worked with Franz Boas (1929) at her alma mater, Columbia University, on a study of Siouan language. Her most important books are Dakota Texts (1932), Speaking of Indians (1944), and the novel Waterlily (1988), published 17 years after her death. |
