| biography:
| Writer, born in Edinburgh, EC Scotland, UK, the sister of John Scott Haldane and Richard Burdon Haldane. She studied nursing, for a while managed the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, and became the first woman justice of the peace in Scotland (1920). She wrote a life of Descartes (1905) and edited his philosophical works, translated Hegel, and wrote commentaries on George Eliot (1927) and Mrs Gaskell (1930). |
