| Novelist, born in London, UK. She trained as an actress at the London Mask Theatre School, then worked as a model and later as an editor and book critic. Her first novel, The Beautiful Visit (1950), an examination of the subtleties of relationships, won the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize. The Cazalet Chronicles, a quartet comprising The Light Years (1990), Marking Time (1991), Confusion (1993), and Casting Off (1995), traces the fortunes of a middle-class family in World War 2. She has been married three times, to Peter Scott, James Douglas-Henry and, most famously, Kingsley Amis. |
