| Quaker prison reformer, born in Norwich, Norfolk, E England, UK. In 1810 she became a preacher in the Society of Friends. After seeing the terrible conditions for women in Newgate prison, she devoted her life to prison reform at home and abroad. She also founded hostels for the homeless, and charitable societies. |
