| Inventor, engineer, and manufacturer, born in Ludlow, Massachusetts, USA. In 1849 he became superintendent of the Colt Firearms Co, eventually becoming president, and remaining there until his death. Among his inventions were a drop hammer (1853), which was soon used in every forge, a revolving cylinder firearm, and numerous machines for tooling firearms. |
