| Rancher and public official, born in Macon Co, Georgia, USA. He went to Colorado and entered the cattle business in 1886. A ‘Silver Republican’ after 1896, he became governor of Colorado (1913–15). Accused of favouring the mine owners during a coalfield strike (1913–14), he returned to business enterprises. |
