| Sculptor, born in Galtafell, SW Iceland. He studied at Copenhagen and in Rome. After extensive travel he settled in Copenhagen (1905), but returned to Iceland in 1914, donating all his works to the nation. He spent two years in the USA making a statue of the first European settler in North America, Thorfinn Karlsefni, for a new sculpture park in Philadelphia, before withdrawing into increasing isolation in his home-cum-museum in Reykjavík. |
