| biography:
| Japanese dance-theatre artist, now resident in New York City, USA. He met Koma Otake (1948– ) in 1971 when both were law and political science students. They joined butoh master Tatsumi Hijikata's company in Toyko, later studied with Kazuo Ohno, founder of the butoh dance movement, and developed a partnership in which they perform and choreograph only their own work. In 1972 they studied in Hanover with Mary Wigman, making their US debut in 1976, since when they have regularly toured North America and Europe. |
