| biography:
| Avant-garde artist, born in Fairfield, Washington, USA. Self-taught, he opened the Now Gallery in Los Angeles in 1956, and co-founded the city's first avant-garde gallery, the Ferus Gallery, in 1957. His ‘assemblages’ were typically room-size, and incorporated dummies, furniture, bones, rugs, household objects, and quantities of ‘blood’ arranged to create shockingly violent tableaux. |
