| biography:
| Composer, born in Taunton, Somerset, SW England, UK. A lecturer in music at Edinburgh University, he directs the New Music Group of Scotland. Early works owed much to serial and aleatoric styles, but with the orchestral Bartók Games (1972) and a one-act opera Fanny Rodin (1975) he evolved a more tonally-based style. Other works include the operas Hedda Gabler (1985), The Mellstock Quire (1988), a symphony, concertos, choral works, two string quartets, and other chamber and vocal pieces. |
