| Theologian, born in Antwerp, N Belgium. Professor of dogmatics and the history of theology at Nijmegen, The Netherlands (1958–83), his publications have ranged widely across the whole field of theology, from sacraments (Christ the Sacrament, 1963), to the presentation of the Gospel in contemporary society (Jesus in Our Western Culture, 1987).
