| Writer and engineer, born in Dijon, E France. He wrote 12 novels, distinguished by their deep psychological analysis of human behaviour. They include L'Empreinte (1895), Les Choses voient (1912), and L'Appel de la route. He became inspector general of telegraphs, and was elected a member of the Académie Française in 1923. |
