| biography:
| Novelist, born in Norwich, Connecticut, USA. She studied at the University of Vermont (1969) and Sir George Williams University, Montreal (1973). Married and divorced three times, she regularly wrote for magazines to support her family, and in 1988 her collected stories were published as Heart Songs and Other Stories. She turned to novel writing with Postcards (1992), and won the Pulitzer Prize for her second book, The Shipping News (1994). Later works include Accordion Crimes (1996) and Close Range: Wyoming Stories (1999). |
