| Architect, born in London, UK. He arrived in Sydney in 1842, and was appointed chief architect for the diocese. He became government architect for New South Wales (1849), returning to private practice in 1854 to design the new University of New South Wales. His academic and ecclesiastical work, including cathedrals in Sydney and Perth, was Victorian Gothic in style, but in commercial designs he adopted classical forms. |
