| Philosopher, born in Edinburgh, EC Scotland, UK. After retiring as a physician, he emigrated to the USA (1870), spending two years at a Georgia colony for resettlement of African-Americans. He then bought a plantation in Texas, where he performed research on protoplasm. His study, Philosophical Problems in the Light of Vital Organization (1907), analyzed mind and body as aspects of one underlying reality. |
