| Sculptor, born in Chaumont, EC France. He studied under Guillaume Coustou, then spent nine successful years in Rome (1723–32), and returned to Versailles. His most famous works are Fontaine de Grenelle (1739–45) in Paris, Cupid (1750, Louvre), and an equestrian statue of Louis XV, Place de la Concorde, which was destroyed in the Revolution. |
