| biography:
| Writer, born in Montpellier, S France. The daughter of a Parisian hostess known as Mme Permon, in 1800 she married Napoleon's aide-de-camp, Andoche Junot, a marriage arranged by Napoleon. It was an unhappy union during which she had two affairs, and after her husband's death (1813) she was ordered to leave Paris by Napoleon. She later lived in Rome, and on returning to Paris wrote Mémoires sur Napoléon, la Revolution, le Consultat, L'Empire et la Restauration (8 vols, 1831–5) which contains many inaccuracies and attacks against Napoleon. |
