| Athlete, born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. A middle-distance runner who at various times held the world records for 3000 m and 5000 m, he never produced his top form during the Olympics, and his best performance was a silver medal in the 5000 m in Melbourne in 1956. In 1958 he was fourth in the Empire Games at both the mile and three miles. He excelled at cross country at which he was the English National Champion each year from 1953–5. |
