| Writer, born in Cockermouth, Cumbria, NW England, UK the sister of William Wordsworth, and his lifetime companion. Her Alfoxden Journal (1798) and Grasmere Journals (1800–3) show a keen sensibility and acute observation of nature in their own right, and as well as adding an important biographical perspective on her brother, gave inspiration to both him and Coleridge in their poems. In 1829 she suffered a mental breakdown from which she never fully recovered. |
