| Archaeologist, born in London, UK. She studied at Cambridge, directed expeditions to Kurdistan (1928) and Palestine (1929–34), and took part in the excavations in the Lebanon (1958–64). An expert on the Palaeolithic or Old Stone Age, she became the first woman to hold a professorial chair at Cambridge in 1939. |
