| Novelist, poet, and translator, born in Redruth, Cornwall, SW England, UK. He studied at Oxford, and went on to work as a teacher and lecturer. His early collections, Personal and Possessive (1964), Two Voices (1968), and Logan Stone (1971), feature erotic poems, science fiction ballads, and Cornish lyrics. His controversial novel The White Hotel (1981) brought him greater public recognition. Other novels include his first, The Flute Player (1979), Lying Together (1990), and Flying into Love (1992). He has also translated major literary works from Russian. Memories and Hallucinations (1988) is a volume of autobiography. His Charlotte: the Final Journey (2000) is a continuation of Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre. |
