| biography:
| Stockbroker, born in Oakland, California, USA. He studied at Stanford (1951) and in 1956 joined Weeden & Co, the investment house his father founded. A leading ‘third market’ firm, by the late 1960s it handled some eight per cent of the total business in stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), effectively challenging the NYSE's monopoly. He became chairman of the family firm in 1970. |
