| Poet and writer, born in Delft, W Netherlands. He founded the magazine De Stem (1921–40), which agitated against the estheticism of the Movement of the Eighties (Beweging van Tachtig). His ideas were of a humanist nature, but the bombastic and rhetorical way he presented them in the magazine and his work caused attacks from different sides, for example from those around the magazine Forum. |
