| biography:
| Greek rhetorician and philosopher, born in Prusa, Bithynia. He went to Rome under Vespasian, but was banished by Domitian. He then visited, in the disguise of a beggar, Thrace, Mysia, and Scythia. On Nerva's accession (96) he returned to Rome, and lived in great honour under him and Trajan. About 80 orations or treatises on politics and philosophy are extant. |
