| biography:
| Capuchin religious writer, born in Cádiz, SW Spain. His style was very popular for its simplicity, as it was free of the conceptismo and culteranismo then popular, even in sermons. Among his most celebrated works was Afectos de un pecador arrepentido (1776). His contribution to literary history was his attack on theatrical licence entitled Dictamen sobre asunto de comedias y bailes (1790). |
