| biography:
| British sports broadcaster. He studied at Brighton Business College, then worked in insurance before becoming a freelance journalist and local radio reporter. He joined the BBC in 1969 as a sports presenter and commentator, moving to television in 1978, where he became nationally known for his contributions to such programmes as Grandstand, Sportsnight, and Match of the Day. He has also presented Holiday (from 1988) and How Do They Do That? (from 1994) for BBC television. Several times Sports Presenter of the Year, he received the BAFTA Richard Dimbleby Award in 1995. He joined Independent Television in 1999. His books include accounts of the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the 1988 Olympics, and the 1992 Olympics. |
