| biography:
| Writer, born in Leamington, Warwickshire, C England, UK. He studied at Cambridge and at Alexandria, Egypt. Many years teaching in universities abroad are recalled in Memoirs of a Mendicant Professor (1969). He wrote five novels, and much criticism, but is best known for his poetry. A dozen volumes since 1953, including Some Men Are Brothers (1960), Unlawful Assembly (1968), and A Faust Book (1979) are represented in his Collected Poems (1987). Later collections include Old Men and Comets (1993) and Collected Poems 1948-1998 (1998). |
