| Baroque genre painter, born in Antwerp, N Belgium, about whom little is known. He probably studied in Italy under Rubens, became a master in the Antwerp guild (1606), and an art dealer in the 1630s. Primarily a painter of religious scenes, some paintings by his son were formerly attributed to him. |
