| Advertizing executive, born in West Horsley, Surrey, S England, UK. He settled in New York City (1939) and after a varied early career, he founded (1948) the advertising agency that became Ogilvy & Mather, a top creative shop whose trademark snob appeal was exemplified by its Hathaway shirt and ‘man from Schweppes’ campaigns. He retired to France (1973), resigning the chairmanship of Ogilvy & Mather (1973) and the Ogilvy Group (1992). |
