| Playwright, born in Melbourne, Victoria, SE Australia. He studied mechanical engineering at Monash University, Melbourne, then turned to writing plays and scripts for films and television. His first works to receive recognition were The Removalists and Don's Party in 1971, and other successes included The Club (1977) and The Perfectionist (1982). He wrote the scripts for the successful Australian films Gallipoli (1981) and Phar Lap (1983). Later plays include Money and Friends (1991), Brilliant Lies (1993), and After the Ball (1997). His work is extremely popular, and he is widely regarded as an astute observer of contemporary middle-class Australian society. |
