| biography:
| British botanist, writer, and broadcaster. He studied at London University, taught at Durham (1960–80), and became a professor at Nottingham in 1987. He established the Conservation Foundation in 1988. The writer of numerous conservation-oriented books, he is best known for his eccentric manner in TV programmes designed to create a greater awareness and understanding of the natural environment. Working as both presenter and scriptwriter, his many programmes include Life in Our Sea (1970), Bellamy's Britain (1975), Bellamy's Birds' Eye View (1988), Bellamy's Border Raids: The Peak District (1994), and A Welsh Herbal (1998–9). |
