| Artist, born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. He studied at Bradford School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London, and was associated with the Pop Art movement from his earliest work. He taught at the University of California, Los Angeles (1965–7), and it was a visit to California that inspired his ‘swimming pool’ paintings, prompted by his fascination with the representation of water. His later work, often portraits, has become more representational. He has also worked in printmaking and photography, and designed sets and costumes. |
