| Jurist, born in Haddam, Connecticut, USA, the brother of Cyrus W Field. He studied at Williams College, MA, and was admitted to the New York bar in 1828, where he worked to reform the judiciary system. A great advocate of codification, in 1857 he was appointed by the state to prepare penal, political, and civil codes. The resulting Field codes have been adopted by many States, and by other countries as well. |
