| Botanist, born in Scone, Perth and Kinross, E Scotland, UK. He travelled in North America as a collector for the Horticultural Society of London, and discovered many trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants which he introduced to Britain. The Oregon Pine (Pseudotsuga menziesii) was renamed the Douglas fir after him, and his name was also given to the Douglas squirrel. |
