| Newspaper proprietor, born in Dundee, E Scotland, UK. At the age of 23 he left the family shipping firm to take charge of the newly acquired Dundee newspaper concern, which he owned and managed until his death. Its principal publications are the Dundee Courier and Advertiser, the Sunday Post, the Scots Magazine, and the People's Friend. It is known outside Scotland particularly for its many popular children's comics, such as the Beano, and Dandy. |
