| Psychiatrist and educator, born in Evansville, Indiana, USA. He was professor and chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioural sciences at Stanford (1961–72) and a member of many policy advisory boards. He conducted research in the areas of psychological stress and endocrine function, adaptive behaviour under stress, psychotherapy in crisis, and the genetic basis of behaviour. |
