| Economist, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. He studied economics at the University of Minnesota (1962), and joined the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley (1963), where he became professor of economics. In 2000 he shared the Nobel Prize for Economics with James J Heckman for their work in the field of microeconometrics. |
