| Psychologist, born in New York City, New York, USA. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley and taught at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio (1947–50), then joined Harvard University as a professor and research associate (1950–66). He was a professor of psychiatry at Yale (1966) and wrote The Authoritarian Person (1950), Patienthood in the Mental Hospital (1964), and The Seasons of a Man's Life (1978). |
