| biography:
| Sportswoman, born in Rotorua, New Zealand. She first played in the World Squash Championships in Canada in 1981, and won her first New Zealand national title in 1983. For the rest of the decade she dominated women's squash. In 1984 she won the Swedish, Swiss, Irish, French, and Finnish Opens, and was the youngest ever winner (at 20) of the British Open. Ranked first in the world (1984–91), she held the British Open title (1984–90) and was four times World Open champion between 1985 and 1992. She retired from professional play in 1992, and was created a dame in 1998. |
