| biography:
| Poet and writer, born near Goulburn, New South Wales, SE Australia. In 1896 she joined William Lane's Utopian ‘New Australia’ settlement in Paraguay, South America, but returned when the venture failed. She became the editor of the women's columns in the Sydney Worker newspaper for 23 years, and published several books of verse that were socially radical in tone, including Marri'd and Other Verses (1910) and The Wild Swan (1930). She was created a dame in 1937. |
